TopOperations Hybrid Cloud

Your production-ready hybrid cloud foundation with reliable on-premises connectivity.

Microsoft provides a cloud infrastructure with the Azure Region Austria East that is hosted entirely within Austria. This creates the ideal foundation for building a hybrid cloud architecture with a strong regional footprint. Workloads are deployed according to operational requirements-either directly in the public cloud, in the conova data center or on-site. You benefit from the reliability and predictability of local services combined with the flexibility and scalability of public cloud services.

With the conova Hybrid Cloud you are able to connect a standardized core infrastructure in a Microsoft Azure cloud region of your choice (e.g., Austria East) with local services. We provide a secure network architecture acting as a central hub, consisting of firewalls to protect communication and gateways that ensure reliable and redundant connectivity to your local infrastructure. Using this hub-and-spoke architecture, cloud services and applications can be integrated into the network flexibly and easily, and connected to your data centers via a private, highly available connection)– which ensures secure and stable hybrid operations.

Hybrid Cloud combines flexibility and reliability

With conova’s hybrid cloud models, you combine the local reliability of our data center services with the flexibility of the public cloud. Depending on your specific requirements and your level of expertise in cloud and networking, you can choose from the following two operating models:

TOPOPERATIONS HYBRID CLOUD – MANAGED
FULLY OPERATED BY CONOVA

  • Rapid deployment with minimal effort required from the customer
  • Simple, consistent operation of applications across conova data centers and the Microsoft Azure public cloud
  • Connectivity via ExpressRoute and/or VPN
  • Network management and security fully handled by conova
  • Management & monitoring of the core setup included
  • Optional management of Azure virtual machines and services

TOPOPERATIONS HYBRID CLOUD – IAC CUSTOMIZED
BASE SETUP BY CONOVA, INDIVIDUALLY EXTENSIBLE

  • Simple, consistent operation of applications across conova data centers and the Microsoft Azure public cloud
  • Integrable into existing customer systems
  • Expansion and customization of the core infrastructure using preconfigured OpenTofu (Terraform) modules
  • Git-based IaC management environment with four-eyes approvals, configuration backups and dynamic parameterization
  • Separation of core network and management services based on a security-focused architecture
  • Optional management of Azure virtual machines and services

With TopConnect for Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, we operate the network connection between the public cloud and local services on your behalf. The setup of the cloud infrastructure is handled by the customer.

Centralized management via hub-and-spoke architecture

In both operating models, our experts handle the setup of the base infrastructure for your hybrid cloud. Cloud services are operated using a hub-and-spoke architecture. The hub represents the central component, ensuring interconnectivity between the spokes and providing network connectivity. The hub includes firewalls and network services that enable routing and load balancing. Spokes are individual applications or services operated in the public cloud.

The gateway establishes the connection to on-site services via redundant VPN connections and redundant ExpressRoute connections. The infrastructure itself is defined as code using the software tool OpenTofu (Terraform). The two application environments (on-site and public cloud) are then connected to this base infrastructure.

In the TopOperations Hybrid Cloud -IaC customized variant, you also receive access to the Terraform modules and can extend them according to your requirements.

The most frequently asked questions regarding hybrid cloud infrastructures

What is a hybrid cloud infrastructure?
A hybrid cloud combines the benefits of local data center infrastructure – such as the conova data center – with the flexibility of the public cloud. Depending on requirements, workloads can be operated either in the data center or in the Azure cloud.

What is the Microsoft Azure Region Austria East and what benefits does it offer?
The Microsoft Azure Region Austria East is a cloud region operated entirely in Austria by Microsoft. It enables organizations to store data locally, reduce latency and more easily meet compliance requirements such as the GDPR.

What are the benefits of a hub-and-spoke architecture for hybrid cloud environments?
The hub-and-spoke architecture enables centralized control and security of all cloud and on-premises resources. The hub provides firewall protection, routing, load balancing and central security controls. The spokes can be used flexibly and modularly for individual applications or workloads.
